Crème Cupcake—First Impressions

Don’t you love it when someone with a vision gives a town’s dining scene just what it needs? At this moment in time, Crème Cupcake + Dessert is doing the trick here in Des Moines. I’m just home from a complimentary, invite-only open house (they officially swing open the doors tomorrow), and, Des Moines, you’re in for a treat.

Just a few shots to give you an idea of what to expect.

In the site formerly occupied by Great Harvest Bread, the place has been totally revamped. The bakery/cafe by day turns into a dessert lounge at night.

The lounge will specialize in craft cocktails paired with beautiful desserts

Above: The interior. Dig the great windows with banquette seating.

Above: Irish whisky caramel mousse with whipped Baileys cream, a crunchy honeycomb, and. Drizzle of caramel. This one was destined to be paired with a Spanish coffee (featuring rum and Kahlua).

Above: A smoked s’more, with handmade mint marshmallow, light lemon curd, and chocolate ganache. Meant to be served with a Rum Crusta, with rum, Cointreau, maraschino liqueur, and lemon juice.

BELOW: And I LOVE this. Each night they’ll have a savory cheesecake, too (in case you just don’t want sweets).

ABOVE: One more thing I love. It’s a place worth dressing for. If you’re out on the town and want to stop somewhere stylish and classy for a little fun and a sweet (or savory) nightcap, this will be the place.

Thank you, Christina Moffatt (above), for bringing us one more thing to love about Des Moines in general and Ingersoll Ave. in particular.
