A Few Random Observations in the South of France

Hello friends. I have been on the road in France and a bit out of touch. But now that we have landed in our apartment (with WiFi!), I will blog more often…

To start, here are a few random observations I have noted the past few days….

First off, I went to the post office. I try to go only once the entire trip, as it can take a while.

Anyone who has ever spent much time in France knows that the wait in a line at the post office can be interminably long. So long, in fact, that some have a little play area for kids while Mom or Dad waits in line.

Next, I checked out the supermarket, which always puts me in a great mood.

Hmmm....Where should today's chicken be from? The Gers? The Ardeche? Peyac?

Even choosing which kind of salt to buy can be a challenge....

My French friends think I'm nuts, but I really do get a kick out of the great array of ready made desserts at the supermarket....Beats Snack Pak!

And check out the prices on these pleasant little sparkling wines... About five to six dollars each.

But soon it was time to high-tail it from the Cote d’Azur to the Cote Vermeille.

This, by the way, is the best thing I have eaten so far. Mussels with persillade--that wonderful garlic-parsley concoction.

On the autoroute we stopped for a coffee.....guess where we are? This is the pastry counter of a .....

Yes. The pastry counter of a McDonald's.

A truly good espresso, considering we were on the autoroute.

Just a forgotten part of the Languedoc....

I will report back soon…meanwhile, eat well, mes amis!
